Queen’s Gate Place Mews
A sprayed, handleless kitchen in a mews house, with a painted in-frame scullery behind it doing the work the front room is too smart to do.
The work
A U-plan with a peninsula, in sprayed slab fronts with no handles: graphite below, a paler tone in the full-height wall units above, and a white solid countertop with a square edge carried round the return. The backsplash is back-painted glass in a soft green, run in single pieces so there is no joint behind the faucet. Every appliance is integrated — the oven and the dishwasher behind matching fronts in the base run, the refrigeration in a full-height housing vented through a grille in the panel above the door.
The room behind the room
A handleless kitchen is a difficult place to actually cook in, because nothing can be left out. So there is a second room behind it: painted in-frame joinery in a soft green-gray, oak countertops, a double fireclay sink, open shelving over, and the dishwasher, the laundry and the bulk storage all in there. It is the arrangement most of our city clients end up with. The room you stand in is calm; the room next to it is where the work happens.

The same construction, whichever range
The range decides the door and the ornament. Everything behind it is built the same way, in the same building, by the same nine people — and it is built that way whether the kitchen is going to Suffolk or to Connecticut.

Every kitchen on this site is one we have made. The images are visualizations rather than photographs of our clients’ houses. They are built from our own workshop drawings and our own photographs of the work on site, and finished with AI, because our clients ask that their houses are not photographed or published. None of it is stock imagery and none of it is somebody else’s work. Drawings, samples and references for completed commissions we will show you in person — visits to the Mickfield workshop are by appointment.
